Featured Poet: Richard Hoffman
Richard Hoffman’s eleven books include the memoirs Half the House, winner of the Boston Athenaeum Reader’s Award and Love & Fury, a finalist for the New England Independent Booksellers Award. He has published five books of poetry, Without Paradise; Gold Star Road, winner of the Barrow Street Press Poetry Prize and the Sheila Motton Book Award from The New England Poetry Club; Emblem; Noon until Night, winner of the 2018 Massachusetts Book Award, and his most recent, People Once Real. His other books include the story collection Interference and Other Stories, and the 2023 essay collection Remembering the Alchemists.
His work, both prose and verse, appears in such journals as Agni, Consequence, Harvard Review, Hudson Review, The Literary Review, The Manhattan Review, PN Review (UK), Poetry, Witness, World Literature Today and elsewhere. In September, Lily Poetry Review Books will publish two volumes of his New & Selected Poems, Each Child a Disappearance, and Mundus et Infans: Selected Suites, Sequences, and Series. He is Emeritus Writer-in-Residence at Emerson College, and Nonfiction Editor of Solstice: a Magazine of Diverse Voices.
Featured Poet: Kathleen Arguero
Kathleen Aguero’s latest book of poetry is World Happiness Index from Tiger Bark Press. She has published several other collections of poetry: After That, Daughter Of, The Real Weather, Thirsty Day, and Investigations: The Mystery of the Girl Sleuth. She is co-editor of three collections of multicultural literature: A Gift of Tongues, An Ear to the Ground, and Daily Fare. Recipient of a Massachusetts Fellowship in Poetry and a fellowship to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Kathleen also was awarded a writing grant from the Elgin/Cox Trust.
She has taught at the Writers’ Center at the Chautauqua Institute in upstate New York, the NY State Young Writers’ Program at Skidmore, as well as in the Poets in the Schools Programs of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In 2004, she held the position of Visiting Research Associate at the Brandeis University Women’s Studies Research Center in Waltham, Massachusetts. In addition to teaching in the Solstice low residency MFA program, Kathleen teaches for “Changing Lives Through Literature,” an alternative sentencing program based on the power of books to change lives through reading and group discussion.
