This poem of Emily Dickinson is shared here, in part, to remind us that we are not the first to feel or be labeled as odd because we notice the ways in which our culture and our institutions do not live up to the ideals we have been taught to believe are important to our culture and our institutions.

We think Peace & Justice are an essential part of those ideals and worth working for . . . and find a bit of comfort in sharing Emily's sentiments.

XI

MUCH madness is divinest sense
To a discerning eye;
Much sense the starkest madness.
’T is the majority
In this, as all, prevails.
Assent, and you are sane;
Demur, — you ’re straightway dangerous,
And handled with a chain.
