ROCKLAND — "Am I My Brother's Keeper," a show of new works by Alan Hynd, has been extended through Sunday, July 10 at the downtown 407 Gallery, upstairs at 407 Main St. They may be seen by appointment by calling 354-6632.
The Hynd works, all completed in 2011, are pen and ink drawings depicting the artist's reaction to the horror of war. Hynd moved to Maine from Connecticut in 1950, the second son of Frederick Hynd who left his post as director of the Hartford Art School after the Depression for the security of a farm and more freedom to paint. Alan Hynd, who studied piano at Hartford School of Music, learned to draw at the heels of his father and associates of the plein air school of painters of that era in Maine.
Hynd, who has developed a love for Scottish folk tunes played on his concertina, also has recently returned to his art in the effort to bring expression to his relationship to the global peace movement. Some of his works on display include "Drone Attack," "No Flag is Large Enough," "The Oracle" and "The Warrior Returns Home."

Olive narrated a slide presentation and discuss her work and her life as a photographer. It was a wonderful event. Olive knew the names of the people in each photo and, for each of her photos, she told us something about both the photo and the person or the people in the photo.
